The difference between stainless steel and galvanized sheet

Galvanized sheet: Galvanized sheet refers to a steel sheet coated with a layer of zinc on the surface. Galvanizing is an economical and effective rust prevention method that is often used, and about half of the world’s zinc production is used for this.

Stainless steel: It is the abbreviation of stainless acid-resistant steel. Steel types that are resistant to weak corrosive media such as air, steam, and water or are stainless are called stainless steel; while those that are resistant to chemical corrosive media (chemical corrosion such as acids, alkalis, and salts) are corroded. The type of steel is called acid-resistant steel.

Galvanized sheet refers to a steel sheet coated with a layer of zinc on the surface. Galvanizing is an economical and effective anti-rust method that is often used. About half of the world’s zinc production is used in this process.

Galvanized steel panels are coated with a layer of metallic zinc on the surface to prevent corrosion on the surface of the steel panels and extend their service life. This zinc-coated steel panel is called a galvanized panel.

It can be divided into the following categories according to production and processing methods:

①Hot-dip galvanized steel plate. A thin steel plate is immersed in a molten zinc bath so that a layer of zinc adheres to its surface. At present, the continuous galvanizing process is mainly used for production, that is, the rolled steel plates are continuously immersed in a plating bath containing molten zinc to make galvanized steel plates;

②Alloyed galvanized steel sheet. This kind of steel plate is also made by the hot dip method, but it is heated to about 500°C immediately after coming out of the tank to form an alloy film of zinc and iron. This kind of galvanized sheet has good paint adhesion and weldability;

③Electro-galvanized steel plate. This kind of galvanized steel sheet manufactured by electroplating method has good processability. However, the coating is thin and its corrosion resistance is not as good as that of hot-dip galvanized sheets;

④ Single-sided galvanized steel plate and double-sided galvanized steel plate. Single-sided galvanized steel sheet is a product that is galvanized on only one side. In terms of welding, painting, anti-rust treatment, processing, etc.,

It has better adaptability than double-sided galvanized sheet. In order to overcome the shortcomings of one side not being coated with zinc, there is another type of galvanized sheet that is coated with a thin layer of zinc on the other side, that is, double-sided galvanized sheet;

⑤Alloy, composite galvanized steel plate. It is made of zinc and other metals such as aluminum, lead, zinc, etc., which are alloyed or even composite plated steel plates. This kind of steel plate has both excellent anti-rust performance and good coating performance;

In addition to the above five types, there are also colored galvanized steel sheets, printed and painted galvanized steel sheets, PVC laminated galvanized steel sheets, etc. However, hot-dip galvanized sheets are still commonly used.

Stainless steel is the abbreviation of stainless acid-resistant steel. Steel types that are resistant to weak corrosive media such as air, steam, and water or are stainless are called stainless steel; while those that are resistant to chemical corrosive media (chemical corrosion such as acids, alkali, and salts) are The type of steel is called acid-resistant steel.

Due to the difference in chemical composition between the two, their corrosion resistance is different. Ordinary stainless steel is generally not resistant to corrosion by chemical media, while acid-resistant steel is generally stainless. The word “stainless steel” does not simply refer to one kind of stainless steel, but refers to more than one hundred industrial stainless steels, each of which is developed to have good performance in its specific application field. The key to success is to first understand the application and then determine the correct steel grade. There are usually only six types of steel relevant to building construction applications. They all contain 17 to 22% chromium, and the better steel types also contain nickel. Adding molybdenum can further improve the atmospheric corrosion resistance, especially the corrosion resistance of chloride-containing atmosphere.

Stainless steel refers to steel that is resistant to corrosion by weakly corrosive media such as air, steam, and water and chemically corrosive media such as acids, alkali, and salts. It is also called stainless acid-resistant steel. In practical applications, steel that is resistant to corrosion by weakly corrosive media is often called stainless steel, while steel that is resistant to corrosion by chemical media is called acid-resistant steel. Due to the difference in chemical composition between the two, the former is not necessarily resistant to corrosion by chemical media, while the latter is generally stainless. The corrosion resistance of stainless steel depends on the alloying elements contained in the steel.
