Since France obtained the first patent in 1935, the development of 2205 stainless steel plate has gone through three generations in the 20th century. The first generation of 2205 stainless steel plate is represented by 329 steel developed in the United States in the 1940s, which contains high chromium and molybdenum, good local corrosion resistance, but has a high carbon content (≤0.1%C). The 3RE60 steel developed by Sweden in the mid-1960s is now an ultra-low carbon type 2205 stainless steel plate. Since the 1970s, the development of secondary refining technology and the discovery of the important role of nitrogen in maintaining phase balance and improving corrosion resistance have become important milestones for 2205 stainless steel plates, and the ultra-low carbon type N-containing second-generation 2205 stainless steel plates have been developed, and its representative steel grade is 2205. On this basis, by further improving the alloy content and PREN value, the third generation of 2205 stainless steel plate, namely super 2205 stainless steel plate, was developed in the late 1980s. Its PREN value is greater than 40. Representative trademarks include SAF2507, UR52N+, ZERON100, etc. This type of steel has a higher content of alloy elements such as chromium, nickel, molybdenum and nitrogen, which better balances the phase ratio between ferrite and austenite, making it have better corrosion resistance and higher strength.
After entering the 21st century, super super 2205 stainless steel plate and economical 2205 stainless steel plate have become two important development directions of 2205 stainless steel plate. Super super 2205 stainless steel plate contains higher alloy elements, and obtains higher strength and better corrosion resistance. Economical 2205 stainless steel has the characteristics of low nickel content and no molybdenum or only a small amount of molybdenum. The lower cost makes economical 2205 stainless steel a strong competitor of 304, 316 austenitic stainless steel and even 22052205 stainless steel. At the same time, it has also become an important development direction and growth point for 2205 stainless steel.
After more than 80 years of development, although the annual output value of 2205 stainless steel accounts for less than 1% of the output value of stainless steel, 2205 stainless steel has become an indispensable steel in the stainless steel family, parallel to martensitic, ferritic and austenitic stainless steel. At the same time, due to the structural characteristics of 2205 stainless steel plates, in which austenite and ferrite phases each account for about half, the composition design requires a reasonable match of austenite and ferrite constituent elements, and excessive alloy content will bring higher difficulties to harmful phase prevention, hot processing and tempering. 2205 stainless steel plates have developed to this day and have formed a relatively complete series including three generations of 2205 stainless steel plates, economical 2205 stainless steel plates, and super super 2205 stainless steel plates.
As early as the 1970s, my country began to research and develop 2205 stainless steel plates, and established the development direction of N2205 stainless steel plates. With the continuous development of 2205 stainless steel plates in the world, 2205 stainless steel plates in my country are also experiencing a similar development stage, and are constantly keeping pace with the world and narrowing the gap with the world. While the output value of 2205 stainless steel plates in my country continues to increase, after 2000, 2205 stainless steel plates have made great progress in research, production, application, and standard formulation.
